UTC is a worldwide time standard.

UTC = Coordinated Universal Time.

Why UTC, not CUT? There is no clean and simple answer!

Time zones are defined as offsets from UTC:

• Central Time Zone

• Uses Central Daylight Time (UTC−5) — Spring ahead!
• Uses Central Standard Time (UTC−6) — Fall back!

Daylight Saving Time:

• Proposed in 1895 by George Hudson in New Zealand.
• Used by many countries — e.g. New Zealand.
• Not used by many countries.
• Has been found to be unhealthy.
• Recommendation: use sunrise-linked local times!
